EP Review: The Sacred Dissonance by MAIRU
Liverpool post-metal act MAIRU recently released their debut EP The Sacred Dissonance and it’s essential listening. A hybrid of Deftones, Neurosis, Mastodon and Russians Circles it is a captivating listen, it’s four tracks come in at just shy of thirty minutes and immerse you fully in their dark and blistering world.
Opener ‘A Fire Within The Splendour’ is as sprawling and explorative as it is heavy and forthright while ‘Dawn Creature’ explodes with a wall of riffs and develops into a expansive churn of sludge heavy post-metal.
The EP really shines with 8-plus minute opuses ‘March Around The Howling Trees’ and ‘Sacred Lands’. The former is akin to a post-metal band at the very top of their game whilst the latter has compelling guitars and enough sonic diversity to please the most ardent post / post metal fan.
