EP Review: Antique Lands: OER Live at ArcTanGent by Only Echoes Remain
Experimental post-rock act Only Echoes Remain released their new EP Antique Lands: OER Live at ArcTanGent) on 24th May. featuring new songs from their upcoming sophomore album, due next year, alongside a powerful live performance of Exigent fan-favourite ‘Aurora’.
The three new tracks feel like a continuation of their debut but in an evolved format. It’s that little bit more progressive, heavier and in your face. Elements of post-metal come to the fore in the rambunctious and groove heavy ‘I Am Ozymandias’, there’s a certain magic to the track that threatens to send shivers down the spine and transport you to some evil dystopia. It’s not all change mind, preceding track ‘Monolith’ goes for the euphoric post-rock tones that you know of OER and it welcomes you home like an old friend.
EP closer ‘Eclipse’ is an opus and the most ambitious track. It has the feel of track aiming to distil the different textures of the bands sound, my word does it succeed. There’s almost a Tubular Bells feel to the track and those guitars at the start ooze emotion. Get this listened to.
