Album Review: Bad Sleep by Bad Sleep
Olympia, Washington’s punk three-piece Bad Sleep release their new, self-titled album on 18th January via Specialist Subject Records. It’s ten short and sharp fizzy garage punk / power pop that you’ll find utterly infectious.
Clocking in at under 20 minutes it’s not going to take up much of your time, but those 20 minutes will be well spent. There are nods to the Ramones, The Mice and even a hint of Cocksparrer. While it might not be the most memorable album, it is fun and while it’s on you’ll find yourself moving to the groove and singing along.
The riff in ‘Don’t Have To’ is a standout moment and shows that Bad Sleep can fit some experimentation into a 2 minute track. ‘Jackie Come Home’ is a delightful power pop track that swoons in and departs in a flurry before you know it. Both ‘Riot’ and ‘Science Fiction’ are excellent tracks, the latter especially so. With tracks so short, it’s the kind of album that should leave you begging for more and wanting to stick it on repeat. It only partly does its job, with some filler tracks completely passing you by.
Worth the sub 20 minutes of your time.
