EP Review: Recovery by Dream State

South Wales five-piece Dream State release their new EP Recovery on 18th May via UNFD. The EP traces vocalist CJ Gilpin’s journey from internal chaos to calm, with each track relating to a stage in her personal recovery.

Need some middle of the road, accessible rock? Look no further than Dream State. Imagine a blander version of Marmozets or Lonely The Brave and you’ve got Dream State. This is music for 14-year-old Kerrang! readers.

Essentially, it’s hard to have anything positive to say about this EP. It’s commercial rock fodder. Big riffs and hooks, you’ve heard a similar variation of a hundred times before, make up most of this 6 tack (20-minute) EP. Thankfully it’s over before it gets chance to leave much of an impression, hell it is so bland and MOR you’d be hard pushed to find any connection. Sometimes you can tell a record is going to be bad by the artwork, just look at it!

That said they’ll probably be huge.
