EP Review: Self Help by WOES

Scottish pop punks Woes release their new EP Self Help on 4th May via UNFD. This is UK pop punk in a nutshell, emo laden lyrics alongside pop hook and catchy sign-along choruses. They’ve had prodigious supporting slots to Neck Deep, Seaway and Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes recently and this is there moment. Are they good enough though?

The short answer is yes. The long answer would look at the current state of UK pop punk and where their talents put them amongst their contemporaries.

We’ll go for something in between and say that seeing as the talent at the heart of UK pop punk is so low that there’s nothing stopping Woes from flying high. There’s some big banging pop punk tracks in the form of ‘Over It’ and ‘Losing Time’ which hint at something special about the band yet ‘High On You’ and ‘Real World’ are pretty average. Album closer and lead single ‘HLB 2’ sits somewhere between the two.

If pop punk is your thing you’ll likely love this, otherwise give it a miss.
