EP Review: Best Friends by Lost Avenue

Alternative punks Lost Avenue release their new EP, Best Friends, on 15th April via Rustys Rekords. Hailing from Derry, Northern Ireland the trio create a visceral and immediate alt punk that blends a raw talent with big tunes.

Opener ‘Stop It, Jack’ is spikey and immediate – the abrasive vocal compliments the frantic and sprawling punk riffs. ‘Embarrassing Myself’ is the standout track of the EP with an extra level of musicianship seemingly lurking just below the surface – with the track coming out as a measured yet raucous punk number.

‘I’m A Vegetarian (I Can’t Eat That)’ is more blistering punk with the screeched vocal providing the real drive to the track before closer and title track ‘Best Friends’ hints at the talent behind the band. At this stage of the band’s career that talent is yet to be fully realised and it’s all a little messy – there’s a whiff of a good track there, Lost Avenue just need a little harnessing and focus.
