Exeter indie rock trio The Fairweather Band are preparing to release their first full length, Meow this September via Specialist Subject Records. Listen to the first single, ‘A New Language’ below.
Following 2014’s self titled ep, and an appearance on Alcopop!’s ‘Sensible Record Labels’ compilation (alongside Martha, Youth Man, Allusondrugs) for Record Store Day earlier this year, and with the addition of Lande Hekt (from Muncie Girls) on bass, the new album sees The Fairweather Band pushing their songwriting further than before. Merging punk, indie rock and English folk to create their own unique and intricate sound. Following in The Minutemen’s school of songwriting, expect sub 2 minute, and at times awkward songs, with a wide base of influences.
Lyrically, songwriter and lead vocalist / guitarist Rory Matthews uses uncomfortable and unusual metaphors, to create lines that are uneasy, enigmatic and intriguing in equal measure.
