EP Review: Nightmare, Recovery by United Fruit

Glaswegian four piece United Fruit have released their new EP Nightmare Recovery via Ditto Music. The EP sees United Fruit pushing their sound and boundaries taking in elements of post punk, post rock and shoe gaze.

Opener ‘Ghost Inside Your Head’ is an atmospheric and pounding alt rock number with the title track and lead single ‘Nightmare, Recovery’ excelling as the finest of the three tracks. Big, bolshy rock is combined with refined and soaring riffs. The dynamics and structure is impressive and hammers home the fact the United Fruit are one of the most under rated Scottish rock bands. The track rises and soars with the abrasive style of the vocal playing the perfect antithesis to the succulent guitar riffs. ‘Cause And Effect’ also excels in its sprawling and atmospheric tones. As the track builds and explodes you get the feeling that United Fruit are within touching distance of breakthrough to the mainstream.

Nightmare, Recovery is a real statement of intent from United Fruit, with this EP the band have honed their sound and found their niche.

AD Rating 7.5/10
