EP Review: Waves EP by Last Light

Birmingham four piece Last Light released their debut EP Waves at the end of February. While this review might not be exactly hot off the presses, don’t let the EP slip past you.

Waves is three top quality rock songs that are above and beyond the normal output of band at the start of their careers. Title track and EP opener ‘Waves’ has a commanding swagger to its introduction, it’s the ideal statement of intent with strong vocals and top quality guitar work.

‘Ember’ is song straight out of the top drawer the duel guitar lines complement each other perfectly, whether it be a crunching riff or the individual notes it works superbly. The track builds and builds until it explodes around the three and half minute mark. Glorious.

‘Shelter’ takes things down a notch yet is every bit as exhilarating as the previous two tracks, especially as it turns into a huge driving and pounding number at its midpoint. When the release comes, Last Light really come to the fore, you can feel you worries washing away.

Waves is a strong starting point for Last Light and they’re bound to go from strength to strength. Listen below.
