EP Review: Make Me Yours by Vow

Walking the line between dream pop, dark wave, post punk and synth pop Vow have released their new EP Make Me Yours. Yet again the band mark themselves out as leaders within the genre producing haunting lullabies saturated in delicate vocals.

Consisting of vocalist Julia Blake, and instrumentalist Andrew Thomas the band create a wonderful texture of sounds. It’s a little darker than their debut – the bass is that touch more haunting and those synths touch on the sinister side of things. Once again Blake’s vocal bathes each track with an illuminating touch of pop class. As with their debut, the EP again features Touché Amoré guitarist, and one-half of Andrew’s ambient guitar duo, Wife, Nick Steinhardt on guitar. Steinhardt, who interestingly enough introduced Andrew and Julia to each other, also took charge of all visual aspects relating to the band’s EP.

EP opener ‘Miles Away’ has some excellent pulsating beats, while the groove of ‘Planks’ goes into Beach House style territory. There isn’t a weak track on this EP, every track brings a different level of eeriness and haunting grooves that will keep you transfixed for longer than its 17 minutes. The brilliance of closer ‘Escapist’ is worth the price of the EP alone.
